History of Speedwell Frame Number PR1074039

ERIC HODGE purchased the bike from Reg Braddick Cycles from new in 1974 and it remained in the family until purchased by Arthur Wolstenholme in 2015 where it was restored to its current state as in the above photograph. Previously it was fitted up as a touring bike and Eric was a key member of the Ajax Cycling Club of Cardiff and together with colleague Reg Pharoah used to extensively tour the UK.

His daughter Sally was brought up in cycling and her father helped coach her to world-beating success. Sally went on to represent Wales and Great Britain in cycling at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games, while two of his sons Neil and Philip are still keen cyclists.

Eric Hodge used his passion for cycling to raise money for charity, when in 2009 aged 70 he rode from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise £12,000 for Help the Heroes along side long time cycling colleague Reg Pharoah.
